Jervis Bay, NSW

Welcome to March 24-25. Sorry these posts are so delayed, but the week is busy and frankly I've been going to bed earlier than Granny does! :)
So Friday the 24th we left the Gong right after school (5pm) to drive south to Jervis Bay with Joe and Liz. Joe was driving, so that was awesome because we were pampered with being able to look out the windows the whole time! And the scenery did NOT disappoint!

Friday night, we didn't do anything special... except that Grant has found his new favourite restaurant. It is called Stonegrill - and your steak, or chicken, or seafood comes out raw, on a stone! It's the coolest thing ever, so you get to basically cook-your-own meat on this hot stone, which is your plate, and then you don't have to worry about sending back under-cooked meat! Cuz it'll be your fault if you don't like it! VERY awesome dinner, and we hear there is a sister-store in Toronto! SO GO CHECK IT OUT! Tell them the Aussies sent you :) Saturday we drove south of Vincentia (the town we stayed in) to Booderee Ntl Park to check out some of the whitest beaches in the world. We went out in search of echidnas and wombats and koalas... and were disappointed on all fronts.

BUT we went on a little hike to Murray's Beach - and it was like something out of a commercial. The water was SO blue, and the sand was SOOO white!! We couldn't believe it. Here is Liz at Murray's Beach, still acting like a 5-year-old vying for camera-time!!

Then we drove down to see a lighthouse that had been bombed out by the army because it was placed poorly and ships were crashing nearby. The ruins are very neat to check out and there was a super look out point. By far, the best part of being in the park was that I spotted our FIRST WILD ROOS!!!! It was fluke, because we were driving through the forest and I saw ears, and told Joe to pull over. We didn't get any photos because they hopped away too soon... but our Roo Radar was on FULL TILT after this spotting!

Saturday night... the rain dumped down, so we headed into Huskisson for dinner at the pub. BUT to our surprise and delight - the other Liz spotted not 1, not 2, but THREE kangaroos down a sidestreet as we passed by! So Joe drove up near them (it was SOOO COOL!) and we were literally 20 feet from these guys, who were chilling out on the side of the road, just 30 feet from this house... eating the grass. In the rain. IT WAS AWESOME! So we drove back to the motel, grabbed the cameras (note to selves, never going anywhere sans-camera ever again!), and went back to shoot a video and some pics. Joe also got out of the car and tried to feed one of them a cookie. He touched the roo on the nose! A VERY cool experience.

We finally left them for dinner, as our tummies were grumbling like crazy. On the way home we went by there again to see if they were there, but no luck. As we turned the corner to head back to the motel though... THERE THEY WERE! We laughed so hard, what luck having all this roo-time for our first time! AND NOW there were 4 of them! So we chased them around and took lots of photos, and we each got out of the car to try and have a photo taken with them.

After torturing them for 30 minutes, the darkness overcame our camera flash and we left the roos alone for the night.
The weekend was amazing -but we're only half over! Check out the next post for Sunday's adventures... *Liz
