Academia!

Hey hey chilly readers!

So there have been a few - requests - for another posting. Actually this one specifically goes out to everyone who is at work and bored!
Nothing has really been going on around here - we spent a weekend at home for once! Siobhan came down to visit us, which was very fun (clearly).

Here is an excellent shot of her showing off her surfer-girl potential at the South Beach. I know, she's hot, eh? Such, my friends, is the hard life of the seaside student.
We had a fun time chillin' on the beach and playing photographers while Grant and Jenn tried out their surfer skills on the shores of Wollongong... however the surf was a lot more rough than the learner waves we had up north, so this is the best shot we got :)

Also, Saturday night we went to see Notes on a Scandal. Interesting, but seriously Judy Dench has been tainted for me - I was scared! Great flick though, just very... something something.

Now - onto the biggest news of this week - school! Right now it's 5:30pm Thursday, which means that classes are finally done. After 4 days of relatively painless (most times) lectures and slightly more painful tutorials (aka "tuts" - toots, yes it's funny the first 100 times), I feel it's safe to say that this is going to be a busy year.
At first we were all joking about how lax everything was, but now we have two assignments due next Friday. Then we go on PRAC for 4 weeks. In class, maybe teaching some lessons, etc. Just dive right in there team!
The campus is gorgeous, despite some major renovations on the library. These two photos off the web are good examples of how
'green' the area is. Duck ponds beside the nice new buildings, lots of trees for shade over walkways and lots of lawn space for students to hang out on between classes.
So it's about 40 minutes walking to get to class, and it's hot at 8:30am so that's a little annoying - getting to class quite sweaty for a long 10 hours on campus. But we're surviving :)
Classes have been really good overall, some cool assignments coming up - this Friday we do have a collage due, ya, like cut and paste magazine photos. I love post-grad.

There are also a lot of fun people in our program and it's especially cool hearing everyone's backgrounds. There are a lot of people who are older (aka not fresh out of undergrad) who are back in school for various reasons. Their stories are interesting for sure, but also meeting lots of Canadian people who are here for different reasons too - as in what/where they want to teach. So this week has been full of that kind of stuff.

Ok, enough blabbering. Hope this keeps you Region employees busy for 15 minutes or so (ha ha ha drag it out to 20, I dare you). Siobhan and I miss you - but not enough to come home just yet.
We'll drop another note if/when anything fun happens in the week ahead.
Love you more than Tim Tams ... mmmm

*Liz (& Grant when he gets home from work) xoxo

I just have to comment on Mr. Tobin's post. HAHAHAH nice one!!!!!!! Liz the campus looks beautiful I'm super jealous of all the green compared to all the brown from Laurier. I don't think there was one nice piece of grass there. And a pond SCORE!!!!!!! Good luck with the heat no one loves walking in the hot summer sun at 8:30 in the morning but like your dad said we are dealing with ANOTHER snow storm but I had my first half day of work!!!!!! DOUBLE SCORE I like this working from home business. It's a great way to start the weekend. Well have a good weekend hopefully relaxing.
Hugs and Kisses

I'm surprised that "tutorial" isn't a "tootie", if one were to follow the pattern of how so many other Aussie words are shortened. You'll be amazing in the classroom with the kids, Liz, not a doubt in the world. The campus looks beautiful in the photos. Love to read your blogs... keep 'em coming.
